We made it!
The final leg of our journey on Sunday was a wonderful opportunity to see the Bahamas from above. The water was brilliantly turquoise, and the island of Eleuthera spread out beneath us. Eleuthera is long and skinny, and The Island School is located near the southern tip of the island
Even though we were tired, we still felt the need for a selfie in the tiny Pineapple Air airplane.
Some students had never ridden in a plane... most had never ridden in such a tiny propeller plane!
On Monday morning, we awoke to a beautiful sunrise. This picture was taken from our porch! The sun served as a natural alarm clock (it rose at 6:15am) and got us up for our very first snorkel- We got to explore a shipwreck right off of the beach in front of our dormitories.Exploration of our beach yielding some beautiful and interesting discoveries. We have been told that we can choose 2-3 shells to bring home to show our families and friends. It will be so hard to choose! Many students have found Sand Dollars, Sea Biscuits, Sea Urchins, and Sea Stars (their skeletons anyway).
All of our meals are served at the Island School dining hall which is surrounded by palm trees and the sound of water lapping up on the beach. The food has been delightful, and has featured many local fruits, veggies, and meats. We were excited to learn that all of the lettuce served here is grown hydroponically right on campus.
Here are our dormitories! Boys are on the right, girls are on the left, and our common space (lovingly called The Octagon) is in the middle. You can't see it, but the ocean is directly behind these buildings.
Our beach again :)
So far we are having a wonderful time, and now that our blog is up and running we look forward to keeping you updated daily!
